Just Thinking 18
The human body is awesome with amazing organs such as the eyes and ears. The eyes and ears are like the twin windows or twin gates to the heart and soul of man.
Jesus said this about the eye in Mathew 6:22-23 (ESV) saying,
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Elihu said this about the ear in Job 34:2-4 (ESV) saying,
“Hear my words, you wise men, and give ear to me, you who know; for the ear tests words as the palate tastes food. Let us choose what is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.
The eye is the lamp of the body, and also allows light to get into you. The ear tests words just like the tongue will taste food.
What you are able to see depends on the amount of light you allow. If you are surrounded by darkness you receive and see nothing. Light brings revelation and insight.
Ephesians 5:11-14a (ESV) says,
11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light.
Guard your heart
If what your eyes see and your ears hear are corrupt words and works of darkness, then your heart and soul will be corrupted. If you stay in the light of God’s word, and tune your ears to hear God always, then there will be life and peace within.
Sanctify your ears and test every word you hear. If they don’t edify, stop listening to them and stay away.
In conclusion, stand guard over your twin gates and preserve the life of your soul!
Proverbs 4:23 (ESV) says,
23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
