Just Thinking 2
Following on the theme from Just Thinking (JTS) 1 about things that should not or cannot happen. I would like us to meditate on James 3:10-12 (ESV), which says,
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
As Christians, there are things that should not be spoken of about us, such as hypocrisy, inconsistency, dishonesty, double standards, half-truths, double-tongued, two-faced, contentious, and such like.
Words we speak
The words we speak and the things we do, reveal who we really are. The way we present ourselves to the world and among ourselves should reflect the nature and character of God. It should attract people to God instead of repelling them.
Are we people of sincerity and integrity? Are we filled with God or with the world and its practices? Do we have one leg in church and the other in the world?
Blessing and cursing from the same lips should not be part of our lifestyle. Fresh water and salt water cannot come from the same spring.
Just thinking final thoughts…
So, check how you speak, what you do, and what comes out of you. Your words should be seasoned with salt so that they can bless others – Colossians 4:6.
