Just Thinking 20
In the last few weeks, months and years, I have heard and read of several cases where people have struggled with difficult choices between available options.
We see that with elections, referendum, politics, academia, sports, business, finance, shopping, eternity and moral issues.
Very often, wrong choices or decisions are made with dire consequences, whereas there is joy and gladness when the right choices are made.
Extracts of Proverbs 14:6-8, 12, 15 (ESV) says,
6 A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain, but knowledge is easy for a man of understanding. 7 Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving.
12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
15 The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.
This passage in Proverbs provides a few insights to assist with making the right choices:
- Verse 6 – gain a good understanding of the subject;
- Verse 7 – do not be influenced by fools who don’t know what they are talking about;
- Verse 8 – carefully think through the options and be discerning;
- Verse 12 – don’t make rash assumptions nor allow yourself to be deceived; otherwise, you might regret it. Things may not always be what it seems;
- Verse 15 – take your time before making the decision.
Ultimately, relying on God and His Spirit to guide you in every choice of life.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) says,
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
