Just Thinking 5
The following passage sets the scene on practices today where church leaders attempt to dazzle people with their prophetic prowess and miracles, while at the same time leading them away from God through their teachings and practices.
Moses
Moses spoke to the children of Israel in Deuteronomy 13:1-4 (ESV) saying,
“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams.
For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.
The fact that a prophet or pastor performed an amazing miracle or made an accurate prediction of the future and it came to pass, is not a password or a licence to follow such a person blindly.
Just thinking final thoughts…
Test every spirit whether they are of God or not. If what they speak is in contrast to God’s commands and instructions, reject it because God will never contradict His words. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy – Revelation 19:10b
