Just Thinking 6
I read a statement made by Jesus Christ to a young man, which made me start thinking about the worth of a man.
Luke 12:13-15, 22-23 (ESV) says,
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?”
15 And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
Message:
Jesus said, “One’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions, for life is more than food and clothing.”
We often strive and labour over these things. Does it mean that they are not important? Yes they are.
But how much is your true worth, something to fight for? How much would you value yourself before God and man?
Is your worth measured by your CV, bank balance, inheritance from parents, material possessions, business acumen, trophies, recognitions, social status & clout, physical appearance, etc?
In Matthew 6:31-34, Jesus says,
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
