Just Thinking 8
I listened to a preacher one Sunday, and he spoke about “Waiting in Faith”. It was a very balanced message. For many Christians today, Waiting and Faith are like water and oil that shouldn’t go together. To them, faith should produce instant results, whereas waiting is evidence of doubt, unbelief or lack of faith. Is that true?
Hebrews 6:11-12 (ESV) says,
And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
This passage says, to imitate the examples of those who through “faith and patience”, obtained the promises. People like Abraham, Jacob, etc had to wait years before receiving what God promised them.
Hebrews 11 also provides examples of those who had instant results and those who had to wait long for the results. They were both commended for their faith. It’s not the results that defined their faith but the complete confidence, trust and assurance they had in God.
The preacher concluded that waiting is the reality of faith. True! We have to learn to believe that God will do what He says He will do, no matter how long it would take. Why, because God is faithful and true to fulfil His promises.
Hebrews 10:35 says that we should not throw away our confidence in God while waiting because there is a reward at the end. There is a need for endurance.
The promise is coming. Wait for it. It won’t be long from now.
