Just Thinking 9

While chatting with someone, he told me of a lady who struggled to forgive herself for the wrong she did. She lived daily with guilt feelings, anger and bitterness.

There was a king by the name of David who went through the same experience but handled it well by taking his sin and guilt to God. He said in Psalms 51:1-4 (ESV),

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

We sin against God every day through our thoughts, words and actions. It is so easy to feel a sense of frustration, guilt and self-condemnation because of these sins. That feeling is healthy because it warns us that something is wrong and needs to be sorted out quickly. The only person who can forgive and restore us back to a healthy spiritual life is God.

Therefore, let us go to God daily and confess our sins to Him as David did. He will forgive and cleanse us of every sin.

Proverbs 28:13 says He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
